Gravel Driveways

A gravel driveway done right is base rock, a proper crown, and compaction — not just a load of gravel dumped in the ruts. We build new drives and rebuild tired ones so water runs off instead of digging potholes.

The work

Most 'bad driveways' around here are really drainage problems. Potholes, washboard, and soft spots come from water sitting where it shouldn't. When we repair a drive we fix the shape first — crown the surface, cut the edges, deal with the low spots — then add rock where it's actually needed.

New construction gets the full build: stripped and graded subgrade, AB3 limestone base compacted in lifts, clean rock on top, and culverts set where the water crosses.

Gravel Driveways questions

How long does a gravel drive last?

Built on a proper base and touched up every couple of years, effectively forever. The rock migrates and packs over time — a top-up load and a fresh crown every few seasons keeps it tight.

Why is my driveway always potholing?

Almost always water. If the drive is flat or dished, every rain sits on it and pumps the base out. Crowning it so water sheds to the sides fixes the cause; new rock alone just hides it for a season.
